Churchill Livingstone (CL) is a global publisher of health and medical information that is made available in a variety of media including books, periodicals, and CD-ROMs. Churchill Livingstone was acquired by Harcourt Brace & Company in October 1997, and the CL imprint is now published and managed through the W.B. Saunders Company (WBS) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Each is a Division of Harcourt Brace & Company.
The CL imprint first appeared in 1972 following the amalgamation of the medical lists of J&A; Churchill, E&S Livingstone and Longman. John Churchill, the founder of J&A Churchill, opened his publishing firm in London in 1728 with a list of medical books dating back to 1688. Today, with the combination of imprints from CL and WBS we have the opportunity to offer you some of the finest quality titles in medical publishing.

With the integration of so many areas between our two companies we are working toward one comprehensive web site of product information because we understand the challenges today's health care practitioners face in keeping up with developments in their field. We know the pace of medical research and discoveries continues to accelerate the amount of time you can devote to read about these changes is shrinking. Our innovative Electronic Media products can deliver the latest clinical information as well as classic medical texts, journals, and vast archives of medical illustrations and abstracts at the click of a mouse. Bookmark this site and return often to help locate the newest selection of media for your medical profession.
CL's multimedia program began in 1994 by acquiring Interactive Regional Anesthesia (IRA), an animated and fully-interactive alternative to printed textbooks on this rapidly growing subfield. This CD-ROM, developed by Oscar Fernandez, MD, an anesthesiologist and computer programmer, won the American Society of Anesthesia's Exceptional Merit Award in 1993 as well as a gold medal in the 1995 NewMedia INVISION awards competition. It has been hailed by the journal Regional Anesthesia as "an extraordinary effort that will certainly receive accolades from anesthesia educators."
At the same time, CL began developing CD-ROM libraries of its classic medical texts. The first was Anesthesia Library, featuring Miller's Anesthesia along with automatic links to nearly 30,000 Medline abstracts. CL has continued to focus on creating original multimedia products.
